The Earl of Buchan, who died suddenly 11 September, 2022, aged 92, was the 17th holder of the ancient Scottish peerage created in 1469. Malcolm Harry Erskine was born 4 July, 1930, son of the 16th Earl of Buchan (1899-1984), and his wife the former Christina Baxendale (died 1994).

He succeeded 26 July, 1984, as the 17t Earl of Buchan, Baron Erskine of Restormel Castle, co. Cornwall [Peerage of the U.K., 1806]  and Lord Auchterhouse [Scotland., cr 1469], and Lord Cardross [Peerage of Scots, cr 1610].

Lord Buchan, of Newnham House, Basingstoke, Hampshire, married 21 February, 1957, Hilary Diana Cecil Power [born 1930], the only daughter of Sir Ivan Power, 2nd Baronet (1904-54), and his wife the former Nancy Hilary Griffiths (1906-94). The Countess died earlier this year, 10 March, 2022.
