ELIZABETH II, By the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of Her Other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, died at Balmoral Castle, Deeside, 8 September, 2022, aged 96. Her Majesty had reigned for 70 years.
Her Majesty Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, elder daughter of His late Majesty King George VI and of Lady Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes Lyon (Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother 1900-2002) , daughter of the 14th Earl of Strathmore & Kinghorne.
Her Majesty was born at 17, Bruton Street, London SW1, 21 April, 1926; she ascended the Throne, 6 February, 1952, proclaimed QUEEN, 8 February, 1952, and crowned at Westminster Abbey, 2 June, 1953; declared in Council 9 April, 1952, that she and her children would be known as the House and Family of WINDSOR, and further 8 February, 1960, that her descendants, other than descendants enjoying the style, title, or attribute of HRH and the titular of Prince or Princess, and female descendants who marry, and their descendants shall bear the name of Mountbatten-Windsor; &c.

Queen Elizabeth II had worn the Garter’s insignia for longer than any other person in the history of the Order of the Garter, extending over more than 670 years, although it was only as recently as July 2022 that she surpassed the record of 74 years that was set by Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, who received that royal mark of favour from his mother Queen Victoria in 1867 and died in 1942.
