Maj. Alexander Richard Trotter, 14th of Mortonhall and 5th of Charterhall, CVO 1939-2022

 Major Alexander Richard Trotter, 14th of Mortonhall and 5th of Charterhall, CVO, died 3 August, 2022. He was 83.

Major Trotter, Scottish chieftain, late the Royal Scots Greys, was Lord Lieutenant of Berwickshire, 2000-2014, and appointed CVO, in 2013.

He was born 20 February, 1939, son of Maj. Henry Redvers Trotter, 13th of Mortonhall and 4th of Charterhall [1902-1962], a grandson maternally of the 15th Earl of Eglinton, and his wife the former Rona Margaret Murray; and married 1 June, 1970, Julia Henrietta Greenwell [born 2 February, 1946], daughter of Sir Peter McClintock Greenwell, 3rd Baronet [1914-78], and his wife the former Jean Henrietta Rose Haig-Thomas [1920-2010], by whom he had issue, three sons, Henry, Edward and Rupert. The eldest son, who was born 27 March, 1972, becomes 15th of Mortonhall and 6th of Charterhall, he is married to Catherine Cameron, a granddaughter of a Marquis of Lothian. The youngest son, Rupert, is married to Lady Louisa Montagu Douglas Scott, daughter of the 10th Duke of Buccleuch & Queensberry.
