Peter Zinovieff 1933-2021

 Peter Zinovieff, who died 23 June, 2021, aged 88, was a engineer and composer.

In the late 1960s, his company, Electronic Music Studios (EMS), made the VCS3, a synthesizer used by many early progressive rock bands such as Pink Floyd and White Noise, and Krautrock groups as well as more pop-oriented artists, including Todd Rundgren and David Bowie. In later life, he worked primarily as a composer of electronic music.

Peter Zinovieff was born in 1933, son of Major Leo Zinovieff, of the Royal Marines [died as the result of an accident, 1951] and his Russian aristocrat first wife the former Princess Sofia Dolgorouky [died 1994]. His father Leo married 2ndly, 1947, Lady Jean Douglas-Hamilton, daughter of the 13th Duke of Hamilton.

Peter Zinovieff married firstly, 25 Nov, 1960, Victoria Gala Heber-Percy [born 28 Feb, 1943], scion of the Dukes of Northumberland, daughter of Robert Vernon Heber-Percy [1911-87], known for much of his life as "the Mad Boy", and was "an English eccentric in the grand tradition, and his first wife the former Ann Jennifer Evelyn Elizabeth Fry [1916-2003], scion of the Fry baronets. He married 2ndly, 15 Apr, 1978, Rose Lucinda Verney [born 17 Aug, 1950], scion of the Verney baronets, daughter of Sir John Verney, 2nd Baronet [1913-93], and his wife the former Jeanie Musgrave [1916-2014]; he married 3rdly, Tanya Richardson, and 4thly, Jenny Jardine.

Peter Zinovieff was father of seven children, including 2 sons and a daughter from his first marriage, including the author and journalist, Sofka Zinovieff, and three daughters from his second marriage to Rose Verney. He was predeceased by a son, Kyril.
