Major Sir [Robert] David Black, 3rd Baronet, DL 1929-2021

 _.Major Sir [Robert] David Black, 3rd [and last] Baronet, died 22 May, 2021. He was 92. His homes were at Woodcote, near Reading, and Shebster, near Thurso, Caithness.

He was born 29 March, 1929, son of Maj. Sir Robert Andrew Stransham Black, 2nd Baronet [1902-79], and his wife the former Ivy Wilson [died 1980].

He was educated at Eton and served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Horse Guards, 1949, Captain 1953, Major 1960, retired 1961; served with the Berkshire and Westminster Dragoons [TA] 1964-67, and the Berkshire Territorials, TAVR III, 1967-69; Vice-Chairman, Berkshire & Eastern Wessex, Territorial Army Voluntary Reserve, 1985-92; Joint Master Garth and South Berkshire Foxhounds 1965-73; Hon Colonel 94 [Berkshire Yeomanry] Signals Squadron, TA 1988-98; Deputy Lieutenant of Caithness, 1991; High Sheriff of Oxfordshire 1993. Succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's death, 1979.

David married married firstly, 22 Oct, 1953 [div 1972] Rosemary Diana Hardy [born 5 Apr, 1931], daughter of Lt-Col. Sir Rupert Hardy, 4th Baronet [1902-97], and his wife the Hon Diana Joan Allsopp [1908-2006], daughter of the 3rd Baron Hindlip [1877-1931]; married 2ndly, 1973, Dorothy Maureen Radclyffe [died 6 May 2011], scion of that landed gentry family, daughter of Maj. Charles Robert Eustace Radclyffe, and widow of Alan Roger Douglas Pilkington [who died 1969].

Sir David leaves two daughters, Diana and Joanna, and was predeceased by a daughter, Fiona.

The baronetcy, created in 1922, now becomes extinct.
