The 20th Baron Teynham 1928-2020

 _.The Lord Teynham, the 20th Baron, of Pylewell Park, Lymingham, Hampshire, died at his home 27 May, 2021. He was 92. 

Lord Teynham was an Old Etonian land agent; Captain, The Buffs [TA], formerly the Coldstream Guards; saw active service in Palestine, 1948; was ADC to the Governor of Bermuda, 1953 & 1955; ADC to the Gov of the Leeward Islands 1956, was private secretary and ADC in 1956; was ADC to the Governor of Jamaica, 1962; President of the Institute of Commerce, 1972-; Vice-President, Institute of Export. Member of the Council of the Sail Training Association, 1964-69; Order of St John; Lord of the Manors of South Baddesley and Sharpricks; &c.

He was born John Christopher Ingham Roper-Curzon, on Christmas Day, 1928, son of the 19th Baron Teynham [1896-1972], and his first wife the former Elspeth Grace Whitaker [died 1976], and succeeded to the peerage [created by King James I in 1616], upon his father's demise, 5 May, 1972. His mother went on to marry, as his third wife, the 6th Marquess of Northampton [1885-1978].

He married 31 Oct, 1964, Elizabeth Scrymgeour-Wedderburn [born 5 Oct, 1943], a great-granddaughter of the 6th Duke of Buccleuch & Queensberry [1831-1914], by whom he had five sons and five daughters [of whom one son and one daughter are twins].

Funeral to be held at 4pm Monday 7th June, St Mary's Church, South Baddesley, Hampshire.

Lord Teynham is succeeded by his eldest son, the Hon David John Henry Ingham Roper-Curzon [born 5 Oct, 1965].
