_.Air Vice-Marshal Donald Laurence Attlee, CB, LVO, who died 28 April, 2021, aged 98, was a nephew of the 1st Earl Attlee, KG, OM, CH, PC, FRS [1883-1967].
He was born 2 September, 1922, son of Maj. Laurence Gillespie Attlee [1884-1969], and his wife the former Letitia Rotton [died 1973].
Career: pilot training in Canada 1942-44; Flying Instructor, 1944-48; Staff, Training Command, 1949-52; 12 Squadron 1952-54; Air Ministry, Air Staff 1954-55; RAF Staff College 1956; 59 Squadron 1957-59; Commanding Officer, The Queen's Flight [Wing Commander] 1960-63; HQ RAF Germany, 1964-67; CO RAF Brize Norton 1968-69; Iperial Defence College 1970; Ministry of Defence Policy Staff 1971-72; Director of RAF Recruiting 1973-74; Air Cdre, Intellifence 1974-75; AOA Training Command 1975-77, retired. Chairman Mid Devon Buisness Club 1985-87; Deputy Lieutenant for Devon, 1991.
He was appointed LVO in 1964, and CB in 1978.
