Rosemary, Viscountess Daventry 1926-2021

 _. Rosemary, Viscountess Daventry, who died 20 March, 2021, aged 94, was the widow of the 3rd Viscount Daventry [1921-2000].

She was born Rosemary Norrie, 26 March, 1926, daughter of Lieutenant-General the 1st Baron Norrie, GCMG, GCVO, CB, DSO, MC [1893-1977], sometime Governor of South Australia, and Governor and Commander-in-Chief of New Zealand, and Chancellor of the Order of St Michael & St George, by his 1st wife the former Jocelyn Helen Gosling [died 1938].

She married 20 October, 1959, the then Hon Francis Humphrey Maurice FitzRoy Newdegate [born 17 Dec, 1921], son of Commander John Maurice FitzRoy Newdegate, RN [1897-1976], and his wife the former Lucia Charlotte Susan Newdegate [died 1982].  Her husband succeeded his uncle,  19 January, 1986, as the 3rd Viscount Daventry, and he died 15 February, 2000.

The Daventry peerage was created in 1943 for Muriel FitzRoy [1869-1962], widow of the Rt Hon Edward FitzRoy [1869-1943], the Speaker of the House of Commons who died in office. Mr Speaker FitzRoy was a scion of the Barons Southampton, and they descended from Charles II and his mistress Barbara Villiers.

Rose, Viscountess Daventry leaves two sons, James, the 4th Viscount Daventry [born 27 July, 1960], and the Hon Hugh FitzRoy Newdegate [b 7 Oct, 1962], and a daughter, the Hon Joanna FitzRoy Newdegate [born 8 Feb, 1964].
