Sir John Nigel Courtenay James, KCVO, CBE, FRICS 1935-2021

 _. John 'Jimmy' James, KCVO, CBE, FRICS, who died 16 February, 2021, aged 85, was Secretary and Keeper of the Records, Duchy of Cornwall, 1993-97;  Trustee of the Grosvenor Estate, 1971-2000; a Crown Estate Commissioner 1984-99, and a member of the Prince of Wales's Council, 1984-97.

He was born 31 March, 1935, son of Frank Courtenay James [1900-41] and his wife the former Beryl May Wilford Burden [1903-82].

He married 18 Nov, 1961, Elizabeth Jane St Clair-Ford [1937-2018], scion of the St Clair-Ford baronets, daughter of Lieutenant-Commander Drummond St Clair-Ford, RN [1907-1942] and his wife the former Norah Elizabeth Maberly [1911-99], by whom he had issue, a son, Simon, and a daughter, Annabel.

He was appointed CBE in 1990, and KCVO in 1997.
