_. Anthony Chetwynd Purefoy, MBE, who died 4 February, 2021, aged 90, was a scion of the landed gentry family of that name, of Shalstone Manor, Buckingham.
Mr Purefoy descended from the Chester family, scions of the Barons Bagot, &c. He was born in 1930, son of the Rev Brian Mews [1898-1963], and his wife Mary Lillias Geraldine Purefoy [1898-1989]. His father assumed by deed poll the surname of Purefoy in lieu of his patronymic.
He married firstly, 1955, Shirley Clare Taylor; married 2ndly, 1975, Doreen P. Whitehead.
He leaves five children, 2 sons and 3 daughters. A son by his first wife is the actor James Purefoy [born 1964].
