New life peerages announced

 _. The Queen has been graciously pleased to signify Her intention of conferring Peerages of the United Kingdom for Life upon the undermentioned.

Nominations from the Leader of the Conservative Party:

Rt Hon Sir Richard Henry Ronald Benyon [born 21 Oct 1960] – former Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and MP for Newbury. He is a great-great grandson of the Marquess of Salisbury, Prime Minister.

Peter Andrew Cruddas [born 30 Sept 1953] – businessman and philanthropist.

Dame Jacqueline Foster, DBE [born 30 Dec 1947] – formerly Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party in the European Parliament and Member of the European Parliament for North West England.

Stephanie Fraser – Chief Executive of Cerebral Palsy Scotland.

Dean Godson – Director of Policy Exchange. In 2016, the Evening Standard named Godson one of London's most influential people, saying that “Fiercely bright Godson, formerly chief leader writer at the Daily Telegraph, has been described as Britain’s acknowledged expert on the problem of social cohesion.”[Commentator Iain Dale also named Godson as one of the 100 most influential people on the right of British politics, in his annual rankings in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Dale also described Policy Exchange, in a February 2020 article, as "the pre-eminent think tank in the Westminster village".

Daniel John Hannan [born 1 Sept, 1971] – formerly Member of the European Parliament for South East England.

Syed Kamall [born 15 Feb 1967] – formerly Leader of the Conservative Party in the European Parliament and Member of the European Parliament for London.

Nominations from the Leader of the Labour Party:

Cllr Judith Vivienne Blake CBE [born July 1953] – Leader of Leeds City Council since 2015.

Jennifer Chapman [born 25 Sept, 1973] – formerly Member of Parliament for Darlington.


Vernon Rodney Coaker [born 17 June 1953] – formerly Minister of State for Schools and Member of Parliament for Gedling 1997-2019.


Wajid Khan [born 15 Oct 1979] – formerly Member of the European Parliament for North West England 2017-19.


Gillian Joanna Merron – [born 12 Apr, 1959], Chief Executive of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, former Minister of State for Public Health and Member of Parliament for Lincoln.


Nominations for Crossbench Peerages:

Sir Terence Michael Elkan Barnet Etherton PC QC [born 21 June, 1951] – Master of the Rolls from 2016, and Head of Civil Justice.

Sir Simon McDonald KCMG KCVO [born 9 March 1961] – lately Permanent Under-Secretary at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Head of the Diplomatic Service.

Sir Andrew Parker KCB [born 1962] – lately Director General of MI5, the Security Service.

The Rt Revd. and Rt Hon Dr John Sentamu [born 10 June, 1949] – Archbishop of York, 2005-2020.
