_. Edward Leonard Darwin, who died 17 December, 2020, was a scion of the Darwin landed gentry family, a great-grandson of the great Charles Darwin.
He was born 21 June, 1934, fourth son of Sir Charles Dalton Darwin, KBE, MC [1887-1962], and his wife the former Katharine Pember [1901-1980]; married 1963, Jennifer Joan Gibbon [Jenny] Proctor [born 1939], daughter of Surg-Rear Adm Richard Louis Gibbon Proctor, CB [1906-69] of Rochester, Kent and his wife Dorothy Joan Hocken (1905-83), by whom he had a son, Andrew [born 1965], and two daughters, Camilla [born 1969], and Anna [born 1972].
