_. Sir Peregrine Worsthorne, the journalist and editor, has died aged 96.
Sir Peregrine was descended from the Bertie Earls of Lindsey and Abingdon.
Peregrine Gerard Worsthorne was born 22 December, 1923, son of Colonel Alexander Louis Wynand Koch de Gooreynd, OBE [1899-1985], scion of a landed gentry family [who assumed the surname of Worsthorne in lieu of his patronymic, in 1921], by his wife the former Priscilla Cecilia Maria Worsthorne Reyntiens [1899-1991]. [His mother married as her second husband, in 1933, the 1st Baron Norman [1871-1950], sometime Governor of the Bank of England].
Sir Peregrine's grandmother was the former Lady Alice Josephine Bertie [1865-1950], daughter of the 7th Earl of Abingdon [1836-1928].
Worsthorne was educated at Stowe and Peterhouse, Cambridge [BA], and Magdalen College, Oxford.
He was commissioned into the Oxford & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, 1942; attached Phantom, GHQ Liaison Regt, 1944-45; Sub Editor, Glasgow Herald, 1946; Editorial Staff: Times, 1948-53; Daily Telegraph 1953-61; Deputy Editor, Sunday Telegraph, 1961-76, Associate Editor, 1976-86, Editor 1986-89, writer, Comments section of the Sunday Telegraph 1989-91 &c.
He was knighted in 1991.

Worsthorne married firstly, 1950, Claude Bertrand de Colasse [who died 1990]; married 2ndly, 11 May, 1991, as her third husband, the writer Lady Lucinda Lambton [born 10 May, 1943], daughter of the disclaimed 6th Earl of Durham [1922-2006], by his wife the former Belinda Bridget Blew-Jones [1921-2003].
