_. The Hon Lady Coats died 19 September, 2020, aged 91.
She was born 23 August, 1929, as Elizabeth MacAndrew, daughter of Charles Glen MacAndrew [1888-1979], Conservative MP for Kilmarnock 1924-29, by his first wife the former Lilian Cathleen Curran [died 1978]. Her father, later Tory MP for Patrick and for North Ayrshire was raised to the peerage in 1959, as Baron MacAndrew.
Elizabeth MacAndrew married 8 February, 1950, William David Coats [1924-2009], a great nephew of the 1st Baron Glentanar. William Coats, who was knighted in 1985, was the last member of his family to head the Paisley threadmaking company that still bears his name.
The Hon Lady Coats was widowed, 1 May, 2009. She leaves two sons, Brian and Adrian, and a daughter, Frances.
