He was a son of Humphrey Arthur Day [1904-1991], of Gosfield Hall, Halstead, Essex, by his wife the former Margaret Helen Grace Grier [1907-73]; married 22 June, 1968, [Gillian] Prudence Cosby [born 1942], scion of that Irish landed gentry family, daughter of Ivan Robert Sydney Cosby [1910-1987], by his wife the former Valerie de Haviland Carey [1918-2006], by whom he had a son, Thomas, and a daughter, Sarah.
