The Baroness Falkender, CBE 1932-2019

The Baroness Falkender, who died 6 February, 2019, aged 86, was Private and Political Secretary to the Rt Hon Harold Wilson, MP, 1956-83 (at 10 Downing Street 1964-70 and 1974-76); she was born 10 March 1932 as Marcia Matilda Field, daughter of Harry Field (1902-72) by his wife the former Dorothy Matilda Falkender Cowley (1902-78); she married 1955 (div 1960) George Edmund Charles Williams.

She was appointed CBE in 1970.

Marcia Williams, as she then was, changed her surname by deed poll to Falkender in 1974, in which year she was created a life peer as Baroness Falkender, of West Haddon, in Northamptonshire.

Lady Falkender had two sons from a relationship with Walter Terry, sometime political editor of the Daily Mail.
