18th Earl of Eglinton & Winton 1939-2018

_. The Earl of Eglinton & Winton, who died 14 June, 2018, aged 78, was the 18th Earl of Eglinton in the Peerage of Scotland, and 6th Earl of Winton in the Peerage of the United Kingdom.

Lord Eglinton & Winton, of Balhomie, Cargill, Perth, was Assistant Grand Master, United Grand Lodge of England, 1989-95.

Archibald George Montgomerie was born 27 August, 1939, son of the 17th & 5th Earl (1914-66), by his wife the former Ursula Joan Watson (d 1987), and succeeded his father in his peerages, 21 April, 1966.

He was 18th Earl of Eglinton (created 1506/1615 by letters patent); 6th Earl of Winton (UK, 1859); 19th Lord Montgomerie (Peerage of Scotland, cr 1448); 7th Baron Ardrossan (Peerage of the UK, cr 1806); and Hereditary Sheriff of Renfrewshire, Chief of the Name and Arms of Montgomery, &c.

Lord Eglinton married 7 February, 1964, Marion Carolina Dunn-Yarker, scion of that landed family, daughter of John Henry Dunn-Yarker, of Leyburn Hall, Co York, by his wife the former Adrienne Elizabeth Pinching, by whom he had issue, four sons, Hugh, William, James and Robert.

The family honours devolve upon his eldest son, Hugh Archibald William Montgomerie, styled Lord Montgomerie, who was born 24 July, 1966.

A Service of Thanksgiving takes place at St Mary's Church, Perth Rd, Birnam, 28 June, 2018.
