The 4th Viscount Samuel 1925-2014

_. The 4th Viscount Samuel (Peerage of the UK cr 1937), died 7 November, 2014, at Westport, Connecticult, aged 89, having enjoyed his possession of the peerage for just one month.

Lord Samuel, a verteran of the Second World War, who served in the fledgling Israeli armed forces in 1948, was a senior executive in the Royal/Dutch Shell Group for over 30 years. He succeeded to the peerage on the death of his elder brother, who was 92, on 7 Oct, 2014.

Dan Judah Samuel was born 25 March, 1925, younger son of the 2nd Viscount Samuel, CMG (1898-1978), by his wife the former Hadassah Goor (d 1986); married 1stly, 1957 (div 1977) Nonni Esther Gordon, dau of Max Gordon, by whom he had issue; married 2ndly, 1981 (div 1992) Heather Cumming, daughter of Angus Cumming, by whom he had further issue.

The Viscountcy now passes to the only son of his first marriage, the Hon Jonathan Herbert Samuel, who was born 17 Dec, 1965.
