Emma Mary Adeona Merrylees (born 2014)

_. The Hon Sophie Emma Merryless (nee Lyttelton, born 1978), wife of George Frederick Merrylees, and scion of the Viscounts Cobham (Visc, GB, cr 1718), gave birth to a daughter, Emma Mary Adeona, 14 November, 2014, a sister for Alfred, who was born in 2011.

George Merrylees is  a son of Mrs Joan Merrylees, of Portloe, Cornwall, and of the late Mr John Merrylees. The Hon Sophie Merrylees is a daughter of the 12th Viscount Cobham (b 23 Oct 1947), and Viscountess Cobham, of Hagley, Worcestershire.

Romana McEwen (died 2014)

_. Romana McEwen (nee von Hofmannsthal), who died 23 Nov, 2014, was the widow of  Roderick (Rory) McEwen (1932-82), scion of the McEwen baronets (Bt, UK, cr 1953). She was born circa 1935, a daughter of Raimund von Hofmannsthal by his 1st wife the forner Ava Alice Muriel Astor (1902-56), and married Rory McEwen, 15 Apr, 1958, by whom she had issue, a son, Adam, and three daughters, Flora, Samantha and Christabel. The youngest daughter was first wife of the Earl of Durham and is now the wife of musician/TV presenter Jools Holland.

The (14th) Lady Herries of Terregles 1938-2014

_. The Lady Herries of Terregles, who died 23 November, 2014, aged 76, was the fourteenth holder of the Lordship in the Peerage of Scotland (Lordship, Scot, cr 1490), and was widow of the cricketer Colin Cowdrey.

She was born Lady Anne Elizabeth Fitzalan Howard, 12 June., 1938, eldest of the four daughters of Bernard Marmaduke Fitzalan Howard, 16th Duke of Norfolk (and 13th Lord Herries), KG, GCVO, GBE 1908-75, by his wife Lavinia Duchess of Norfolk, LG (nee Strutt) d 10 Dec, 1995, scion of the Barons Belper.

She succeeded to her father's Lordship of Herries of Terregles on his demise, 31 January, 1975; and married in Sept, 1985, as his second wife, the England Test cricketer, Colin Cowdrey, CBE (afterwards a life peer as Baron Cowdrey of Tonbridge, 1932-2000).

Lady Herries is succeeded in the Lordship by her next sister, the Lady Mary Katherine Mumford, DCVO, (b 14 Aug 1940), a widow, long~serving Lady~in~Waiting to HRH Princess Alexandra, the Hon Lady Ogilvy.

A Service of Thanksgiving takes place at the Cathedral Church of Our Lady and St Philip Howard, Arundel, west Sussex, Tuesday 16 Dec, 2014.

__.The marriage took place, 22 November, 2014, between Walter John Francis Scott, formerly Montagu Douglas Scott, styled Earl of Dalkeith (b 8 Aug, 1984), elder son and heir of the 10th Duke of Buccleuch & Queensberry, KBE, DL (b 1954), by his wife the former Lady Elizabeth Marian Frances Kerr (b 1954), scion of the Marquesses of Lothian, & Elizabeth Honor Cobbe (born 1986), scion of that Irish gentry family of Newbridge House, Dublinounger younger daughter of Mr Hugh Michael Thomas Cobbe (b 1942), of East Woodhay, Hampshire, by his wife the former Katherine Elizabeth Chichester, dau of Charles Chichester. 

The Cobbe forebears include Frankland baronets, Arbuthnots and John Jay (1745-1829), one of the most important of the American Founding Fathers -- co-author of the "Federalist Papers" and first chief justice of the United States. -=-

Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart y Silva, the Duchess of Alba 1926-2014

Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart y Silva, the Duchess of Alba, has died at the age of 88 in Seville.
The holder of 14 Grandezas de EspaƱa titles, the highest rank in Spanish nobility, she was the head of the House of Alba and a well-known society figure.  She was 18th Duchess of Alba de Tormes, Duchess of Berwick (the Dukedom recognized by the Crown of Spain is descendable through female lines, though the original Jacobite dukedom was not); was born at Madrid, 28 mAR, 1926;  married 1stly at Seville, 12 Oct 1948, Pedro Luis Martinez de Irujo (1919-72); married 2ndly, 2 Mar, 1978, Jesus Aguirre Ortiz de Zarate (1934-2001); married 3rdly, 5 Oct, 2011, Alfonso Diez Carabantes (born 15 Nov, 1950). She leaves six children, (1) Carlos, b 1949; (2) Alfonso (b 1950); (3) Jacobo (b 1954); (4) Fernando, b 1959; (5) Cayetano, b 1963, and (6) Eugenia, b 1968.

Lady Caroline Victoria Gosling 1937-2014

_. The Lady Caroline Victoria Gosling, who died 15 November, 2014, aged 77, was a scion of the Earls of Halifax (Earl, UK, cr 1944), a daughter of the 2nd Earl, and granddaughter of the 1st Earl, who was Foreign Secretary in the years of appeasement.

She was born Caroline Victoria Wood, 10 Sept, 1937, eldest daughter of the 2nd Earl of Halifax (1912-80), of Garrowby, North Yorkshire, by his wife the former Ruth Alice Hannah Mary Primrose (d 1989), scion of the Earls of Rosebery (Earl, Scotland cr 1703); she married 1stly, 29 April, 1958, Randle Joseph Feidlen (div 1970), descended from the Viscounts Hampden, son of Maj-Gen Sir Guy Feilden, KCVO, CB, CBE, DL, by whom she had issue; married 2nd, 1970, as his second wife, John Valentine Gosling (1913-2007), scion of that landed family. She was widowed, 1 Feb, 2007.

Lady Caroline leaves a son, Randle Feidlen, and a daughter, Fiona Bryant. A daughter, Virginia, predeceased her in 1994. Her brother, Peter, is 3rd Earl of Halifax.

Sir William Stratford Dugdale, CBE, MC, DL, 2nd Baronet 1922-2014

_. Sir William Stratford Dugdale, CBE, MC, DL, 2nd Baronet, who died 13 November, 2014, was a Warwickshire landowner, sometime Chairman of the Nat Water Council, and uncle of the Prime Minister, David Cameron.

He was born 29 Mar, 1922, son of Sir William Francis Dugdale, 1st Bt (1872-1965), by his wife the former Margaret Gilmour (d 1965), dau of Sir Robert Gordon Gilmour, 1st Baronet; succeeded to his father's baronetcy (created 1936) 18 Apr, 1965; married  1st 1952 Lady Belinda PLEYDELL-BOUVERIE (d 1961) d of 7th Earl of RADNOR and had a son and 3 daus. He married 2nd 1967 Cecilia Mary (b 1931) d of Sir William Malcolm MOUNT 2nd Bt TD (1904-93, grandfather of Prime Minister David CAMERON) and had a further son and a dau. He is succeeeded  in the baronetcy by his eldest son, William Matthew Stratford Dugdale, who was born 22 Feb, 1959.

Edmund Brudenell, of Deene Park, Northants 1928-2014

_,. Edmund Brudenell, who died 19 October, 2014, aged 85, spent almost three decades painstakingly restoring Deene Park, one of England's finest country houses. Mr Brudenell was a scion of the Marquesses of Ailesbury (Marquess, UK, cr 1821), a gt-grandson of the 3rd Marquess; born 24 Oct, 1928, son of George Lionel Thomas Brudenell (1880-1962), who in 1917 had assumed the surname of Brudenell in lieu of Brudenell-Bruce, by his wife the former Mary Julia Schillizzi (died 1972), descended from the Ralli baronets; married 1955, the Hon Marian Manningham-Buller (who died 10 Aug, 2013), scion of the Viscounts Dilhorne (Vis, UK, cr 1964), dau of the 1st Viscount Dilhorne (1905-80), by his wife the former Lady Mary Lindsay (1910-2004), scion of the Earls of Crawford & Balcarres; by whom he had issue, 2 sons and one daughter.

Baroness Marples (d 2014)

_. The Baroness Marples, who died 1 November, 2014, aged 95, was the widow of the life peer the Baron Marples, PC (1907-78), who as Ernest Marples, PC, MP, was Conservative MP for Wallasey, and served as Minister of Transport; she was the former Ruth Alianore Dobson, dau of F.W. Dobson, of Nottingham, and married Marples in 1956, as his second wife. She was widowed in 1978. No issue of the union.

Funeral 21 Nov, followed by burial at Kensal Greem Cemetery.

The Lady Auriel Rosemary Malet Vaughan (known as Oriel Malet), who died 14 October, 2014, aged 91, was a gifted novelist, Bohemian, scion of the Earls of Lisburne (Ear, Ire, cr 1776).

She was born 20 January, 1923, third and youngest daughter of the 7th Earl of Lisburne (1892-1965), by his first wife, the former Maria Isabel Regina Aspasia de Bittencourt (who d 1944); 

She was unm.

Olivia Marianne Cavan-Lambart 1925-2014

_. Olivia Marianne Cavan-Lambart, who died at her home, 31 October, 2014, aged 89, was a scion of the Earls of Cavan (Earl, Ire, cr 1647), and was a half~sister of the 13th Earl of Cavan.

She was born 22 Oct, 1925, as Olive Lambart, daughter of Frederick Cavan Lambart 1902-63, by his first wife the former Adelaide Constance Butler; she later abandoned the Christian name of Olive; married 27 Dec, 1950 (divorced 1970), Ernest Ephraim Corrett, by whom she had issue, two sons, Paul and Graham.

The 4th Viscount Samuel 1925-2014

_. The 4th Viscount Samuel (Peerage of the UK cr 1937), died 7 November, 2014, at Westport, Connecticult, aged 89, having enjoyed his possession of the peerage for just one month.

Lord Samuel, a verteran of the Second World War, who served in the fledgling Israeli armed forces in 1948, was a senior executive in the Royal/Dutch Shell Group for over 30 years. He succeeded to the peerage on the death of his elder brother, who was 92, on 7 Oct, 2014.

Dan Judah Samuel was born 25 March, 1925, younger son of the 2nd Viscount Samuel, CMG (1898-1978), by his wife the former Hadassah Goor (d 1986); married 1stly, 1957 (div 1977) Nonni Esther Gordon, dau of Max Gordon, by whom he had issue; married 2ndly, 1981 (div 1992) Heather Cumming, daughter of Angus Cumming, by whom he had further issue.

The Viscountcy now passes to the only son of his first marriage, the Hon Jonathan Herbert Samuel, who was born 17 Dec, 1965.

The bride to be is a granddaughter of the Lady Saltoun (a peeress in her own right), and the late Capt Alexander Arthur Alfonso David Maule Ramsay of Mar, and a great-granddaughter of HRH Princess Patricia of Connaught (afterwards Lady Patricia Ramsay), and a great-great granddaughter of HRH The Prince Arthur, 1st Duke of Connaught & Strathearn, son of HM Queen Victoria, &c.

Dowager Baroness Hayter, MBE 1919-2014

_. The Dowager Baroness Hayter, MBE, who died 31 October, 2014, aged 95, was the widow of the 3rd Baron Hayter, KCVO, CBE (1911-2003).

She was the former Elizabeth Anne Rumbold, scion of the Rumbold baronets (Bt, cr 1779), & was born 25 Sept, 1919,daughgter of Thomas Arthur Rumbold; by his wife Rosemary Hazel Hampshire, and married the then George Charles Hayter Chubb, in 1940. Her husband succeeded as 3rd Baron his father's death, 3 March, 1967, and died 2 Sept, 2003.

Lady Hayter is survived by three sons, George, John and Charles and by a daughter, Sarah. The eldest son, George William Michael Chubb, b 9 Oct, 1943, is the fourth Baron Hayter.
