8th Baron Thurlow KCMG 1912-2013

_.The Lord Thurlow, KCMG, the 8th Baron, who died 24 March, 2013, at the age of 101, served as British High Commissioner in New Zealand and Nigeria, and retired after three years as Governor of the Bahamas in 1972.

Francis Edward Hovell-Thurlow-Cumming-Bruce was born 9 March, 1912, a younger son of Rev. the 6th Baron Thurlow (1869-1952), by his wife the former Grace Catherine Trotter (died 1959), and succeeded to the peerage (Baron, GB, cr 1792), on his elder brother's demise, 29 May, 1971.

Married 11 May, 1949, Yvonne Diana Wilson (who d. 14 Feb, 1990), by whom he had issue, two sons and 2 daughters. He was predeceased by his younger son, Peter, who died in 1985. The peerage now devolves upon his Lordship's only surviving son, the Hon Roualeyn Robert Hovell-Thurlow-Cumming-Bruce, who was born 13 Apr, 1952.
