Edward René David Goldsmith 1928-2009

_Edward René David Goldsmith, environmentalist, was born on November 8, 1928, son of Frank Goldsmith, MP (1878-1967), & was elder brother billionaire financier Sir James Michael Goldsmith (1933-97), & sometime brother-in-law of Lady Annabel Vane-Tempest-Stewart. Teddy died in Italy, 21 August 2009, aged 80.

He was twice wed. He had 1 son and 2 daus from his first marriage and 2 sons from his 2nd marriage. His daughter, Clio is wife of Mark Roland Shand (b 28 Jun 1951), descended from the Barons Ashcombe, and brother of HRH The Duchess of Cornwall.

Aug 2009, aged 98, was b circa 1911, as Mary Stephanie de Bertodano,
daughter of Frederick Ramon de Bertodano, 8th Marquis del Moral, by
his 1st wife the former Lady Ida Elizabeth Dalzell (1876-1940), dau of
the 11th Earl of Carnwath (1847-1910).

Requiem Mass, 3rd September 2009 at Church of Christ the Prince of
Peace, Portmore Park Road, Weybridge, Surrey, followed by private
interment later.

Wakeham, son of Mr Antony Wakeham, of Bramham, West Yorkshire, by his
wife the former Marcia Eizabeth Lane Fox (b 1940), scion of that LG
family of Bramham Park, & Zoe R. Sweeting, dau of Mr & Mrs Leonard
Sweeting, of Cotness, East Yorkshire.

Richard Wakeham was one of eight bloodsports supporters convicted on
26/5/05 of violating the Public Order Act Section 5 after invading the
House of Commons during a debate on the Hunting Bill. His maternal
grandmother was the Hon Marcia Agnes Mary Lane Fox, eldest dau of the
1st (and last) Baron Bingley, PC.

Death of artist Flavia Irwin (Lady de Grey)

Lady de Grey, whon died 1 Aug 2009, aged 92, was the artist and
designer Flavia Irwin, and widow of Sir Roger de Grey (1918-95),
painter, sometime President of the Royal Academy, scion of the Barons
Walsingham. She was born Flavia Hatt Irwin, 15 Dec 1916. She is
survived by 2 sons and 1 dau.

Lord Gage married firstly, 1974 the Lady Diana Adrienne Beatty (b. 13 Sep 1952), only dau. of the 2nd Earl Beatty, by his third wife Adelle Dillingham, dau. of M Dillingham, of Oklahoma City, USA, and has sons, (i) the Hon Henry William Gage (b. 25 Jun 1975), and (ii) the Hon Richard David Benedict Gage (b. 21 Feb 1977).

Claire Howard-Vyse (née Underwood), wife of James Edward Howard-Vyse (b. 1977), gave birth to a son, William, 30 July, 2009, a brother for Charlie, who was b 1st Dec 2007.

James is the son of Lieutenant Colonel John Cecil Howard-Vyse (b. 1947), of that BLG family, of The Old Vicarage, Burneston, Bedale, North Yorkshire, by his wife, the former Jennifer Anne Collin, and Claire is the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Michael Underwood, of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.


James Howard-Vyse's paternal grandfather, Lt-Gen. Sir Edward Dacre Howard-Vyse, KBE, CB, MC (who d. 1992) married in 1940, Mary Bridget, dau of Colonel the Hon. Claude Willoughby, MVO, and granddaughter of
the 8th Baron Middleton.

Life peer Lord Gregson dies aged 85

The Baron Gregson, a life peer since 1975, died in hospital, 12 Aug
2009. He was 85.

John Gregson was b 29 Jan 1924, the son of John Gregson. From 1996 he
was Treasurer of the Built Environment Group. He was also Honorary
Life President of the Labour Finance and Industry Group. Created a
life peer in 1975, he took the title Baron GREGSON, of Stockport in
Greater Manchester.

Kalula Charis Hope Inglis-Jones

The Madam Kincaid of Kincaid (nee Arabella Jane Hornell Lennox), wife of Giles Vivian Inglis-Jones, gave birth to a daughter, Kalula Charis Hope, 12 August, 2009, a sister for Angus, Jessie, Isabella and Dominic.

Madam Kincaid of Kincaid succeeded her grandmother in the chieftainship (1999) and matriculated her coat of arms, 26 January 2001 and assumed the name Arabella Jane Kincaid of Kincaid.

Hon David Layton dies

The Hon David Layton, who has died, was the son of the 1st Baron LAYTON (cr UK 1947) and Eleanor Dorothea daughter of Francis Beresford Plumptre OSMASTON. He married
1st 1939 (div 1972) Elizabeth, dau of Rev Robert Miller GRAY, of Hampstead and had two sons: Jonathan Francis b 1942 married with two sons and a dau; and Mark Oliver b 1944 and unmarried (according to Debrett’s but note Burke’s has him married to Penelope HAMILTON, no issue); and a dau Hilary Ruth b 1947 and unmarried. David Layton married 2nd 1972 Joy PARKINSON. He was heir presumptive to his nephew, the 3rd Baron, a place now taken by his eldest son. His younger brother survives him. He is the Hon Christopher Walter LAYTON b 1929 and thrice married with one son (John Stephen b 1955, unm) and four daus. He and his son occupy the final 4th and 5th
positions in the line of succession to the barony.

She m 2ndly 1974 Robert E J PHILIPPI son of Col George Philippi of Madrid and had another son (James Jeremy George PHILIPPI b 1975 and married with a son). Her eldest son now takes his mother's place as co-heir to Baroness Willoughby de Eresby (b 1934, unm), the other co-heir being Sir George John Aird 4th Bt (b 1940, married with a son (m 2007) and two daus (one of whom is married with 2 daus)). It is between these two and their heirs that any future abeyance will have to be terminated.

Sir Edward Archdale, 3rd Baronet, dies

Captain Sir Edward Folmer Archdale, 3rd Baronet, of Riversdale (Co. Fermanagh),
on Friday 31st July after a long illness, aged 87 years. Mentioned in
Dispatches in 1940.—(HMS Sabre, Dunkirk) and awarded the DSC in 1943
(HMS Unbroken, Mediterranean petrols 1942-43). Survived by two
children and three grandchildren. Service to be held at 2 p.m. on
Thursday 13th August at St. Mary's Church, Caterham, Surrey CR3 5RA.

Major Victor Ronald Seely, who has died aged 68 was a scion of the Seely Baronets.

He is the son of Maj Sir Victor Basil John SEELY 4th Bt (1900-80) and
his 3rd wife Mary Frances Margaret dau of William Ronald COLLINS of
South Kensington. He married 1972 Annette Bruce dau of Lt-Col J. A. D.
McEWEN, of Salperton House, Salperton, Cheltenham and had an only son
WILLIAM VICTOR CONWAY b 16 Sept 1983 (unm), who succeeds his father as
the present 5th Bt's heir presumptive.

Paulette Howard-Johnston 1904-2009

Mrs Paulette Howard-Johnston (nee Helleu), who has died aged 104, was the dau of the French artist Paul Helleu and Alice Guerin. She
married in 1955, as his 3rd wife, Rear-Admiral Clarence Dinsmore
"Johnny" Howard-Johnston CB DSO DSC. He was the son of John Howard-
Johnston and Countess Pierre de Breuil de St Germain and had married
1stly Lady Alexandra Henrietta Louisa HAIG, eldest dau of FM 1st Earl
Haig & Hon Dorothy Maud dau of 3rd Baron Vivian. (The late Duchess of
Gloucester and the present Duke of Edinburgh stood sponsors to their
elder and younger sons respectively.)

Mrs Howard-Johnston was a Chevalier of the Légion d' honneur and an
Officier des Arts et des Lettres.

Henrietta Leatham (nee Walder-Smith), wife of Patrick Hawke Leatham
(b. 1974), gave birth to a daughter, Sasha Joan, 3 Aug 2009, a sister
for Sophia Louise, who was b 17 October, 2006, & for Scarlett Rose,
who was b. 5 December, 2004.

Patrick is the eldest son of Mr Philip Leatham, of Gloucestershire,
and the Hon. Mrs Sanders, of Wiltshire; & Henrietta is a daughter of
Mr Reginald Walder-Smith & Mrs Franco Morganti, of Surrey.


Patrick is a scion of the Leatham BLG family, and descended
(paternally) from Henry Seymour Berry, 1st & last Baron Buckland,
(1877-1928), who left five daughters at his decease.


Patrick's mother is the former Hon. Rowena Margaret Hawke, fifth of
the seven daughters of the late 9th Baron Hawke (1901-85), m. (i)
1971, William Philip Leatham, & (ii), 1990, William T. Sanders. The
Hon Mrs Sanders is/was Lady-in-Waiting to HRH Princess Michael of
Kent.
