Baron Bruce-Lockhart

The life peerage awarded to Sir Alexander John Bruce-Lockhart, OBE (1995) has been gazetted in the name, style and title of Baron BRUCE-LOCKHART, of The Weald in the County of Kent. (Source: Daily Telegraph 13 June 2006). He was b. 4 May 1942, son of John McGregor Bruce-Lockhart, CMG (1951), CB (1966), OBE (1944), who was with MI6 (b. 9 May 1914; d. 1995 Source Daily Telegraph 10 May 1995), by his wife, whom he married in 1939, Margaret Evelyn Hone, and was educated at Dragon School, Oxford; Sedbergh School, Yorks. Career: - sometime Leader of Kent County Council; President of Maidstone Conservative Assoc, 1993-98, &c. He married in 1966, Tess Pressland, by whom he has 2 sons 1 daughter. Lord Bruce-Lockhart's paternal grandfather was J.H. Bruce-Lockhart, sometime Headmaster of Sedbergh School. JH Bruce-Lockhart was a brother of Sir Robert Hamilton Bruce-Lockhart,KCMG (1943), author, broadcaster, journalist & diplomat, b. 2 Sept 1887; died at Hove, Sussex, 27 Feb 1973, aged 82 (Source Yorkshire Post 28 Feb 1973), author of Memoirs of a British Agent, married (i) 1913 (div 1938), Jean Haslewood Turner, daughter of Leonard Turner, of Kinellan, Brisbane, Australia; married (ii) 1948, Frances Mary, daughter of Major-General E.A. Beck. Lord Bruce-Lockhart's great-grandfather was R. Bruce-Lockhart, of Eagle House, Sandhurst, Berks, by his wife Florence Stuart Macgregor.
