Robert Alexander Farquharson, CMG, late of Her Majesty's Diplomatic Service (retired), sometime British Ambassador to Yugoslavia, Lord of the Manor of Bockleton, died 28 September, 2005. He was aged 80.
He was born 26 May, 1925, the son of Capt. J.P. Farquharson, DSO, OBE, RN, and Mrs Farquharson (nee Prescott-Decie), and was educated at Harrow and at King's College, Cambridge.
Career: - ->Served with the RNVR 1943-46; joined the Foreign (now Diplomatic) Service 1949; was 3rd Secretary at Moscow, 1950; Foreign Office 1952; 2nd Secretary at Bonn, 1955; 1st Secretary at Panama 1958; Paris 1960; Foreign Office 1964; Counsellor, Director of British Trade Development, South Africa 1967; Minister at Madrid, 1971; Consul-General at San Francisco, 1973; Ambassador to Yugoslavia, 1977-80; Lay Canon of Salisbury Cathedral from 2000; &c.
He was appointed CMG in 1975.
He married in 1955, Joan Elizabeth, the only daughter of Sir William Ivo Mallet, GBE, KCMG, by whom he had 3 sons and one daughter. He was predeceased by one of his sons.
The funeral service is on 12th October, 2005, at the Church of St Peter and St Paul, Blandford, Dorset followed by interment at All Saints, Langton Long.
