Hector Frederick Harper

The Hon. Emily Moyra Harper (nee Cavendish) b. 1980, wife of Dr. Benjamin C.T. Harper, gave birth to a son, Hector Frederick, at St Thomas's Hospital, 16 June, 2006. Dr Harper is the son of Dr. Peter Harper, of London, and the late Mrs Peter Harper, of Knightsbridge, London, & Emily is the younger daughter of the life peer Baron Cavendish of Furness (b. 1941), of Holker Hall, Cumbria, scion of the Dukes of Devonshire, by his wife, the former Grania Mary Caulfeild (scion of the Viscounts Charlemont).

Lady Winefride Alice Freeman (1914-2006)

The Lady Winefride Alice Freeman (nee Fitzalan-Howard), who died at St. Teresa's Residential Care Home, Kensington, 27 May, 2006, aged 91, was the last surviving child of the 12th Duke of Norfolk, KG, PC, CVO (d. 1917), by his 2nd wife, Gwendolen Mary, Lady Herries of Terregles (d. 1945). She was b. 31 Oct 1914; married 7 May, 1943, Lt-Col John Edward Broke Freeman (d. 1986), son of Sir Philip Horace Freeman, KCVO, KBE, by whom she had one son, Charles, and 2 daughters, Mary & Virginia. Career:- JP for Suffolk; President Suffolk Red Cross, 1972-84. She lived in Aldingbourne, West Sussex. The funeral took place at the Cathedral church of St Philip Neri, Arundel, 9 June, 2006, followed by burial at Arundel.

Baroness Wrottesley, wife of the 6th Baron, gave birth to a son, 19 June, 2006, at Zurich, a brother for the Hon Victor Wrottesley, who was b. at Zurich, 28 January, 2004.
Lord and Lady Wrottesley married on 14 July, 2001, in the Chapel of Regina Pacis, St Moritz. The peer, b. 10 Aug 1968, as Clifton Hugh Lancelot De Verdon Wrottesley, is sixth holder of the barony, (created 1838), and the baronetcy created in 1642. He is son of the late Hon Richard Wrottesley and of Mrs Jonathan Seddon-Brown.
Lady W is the former Sascha Schwarzenbach, daughter of Mr & Mrs Urs Schwarzenbach.

He is succeeded in the peerage by his elder son, the Hon. David Kenneth Roy Thomson, b. 12 June, 1957.

He was born 2 July, 1924, the son of Sir Charles Markham, 2nd Baronet, by his wife Gwladys, daughter of the Hon. Rupert Beckett, scion of the Barons Grimthorpe. He was educated at Eton. Career:-->served in the Second World War as a Lieutenant in the 11th Hussars (and was mentioned in despatches); Vice-Chairman, Nairobi Co. Council, 1953-55; Member of the Legislative Council, Kenya 1955-60; President, Royal Agricultural Society, Kenya, 1958; KStJ 1973; succeeded to the baronetcy (created in 1911) on the demise of his father, 1952. He married in 1949, Valerie (died 1998), the only daughter of Lt.-Col. E. Barry-Johnston, of Makuyu, Kenya, by whom he had 2 sons and 1 daughter. The baronetcy now devolves upon his elder son, Arthur David Markham, b. 6 Dec, 1950.

Edmund Bernard Carlo Howard, CMG, MVO (1909-2005), fourth son of the 1st Baron Howard of Penrith, GCB, GCMG, CVO (himself a scion of the Dukes of Norfolk). She was the former Cécile Henriette Geoffroy-Dechaume, daughter of Charles Geoffroy-Dechaume, of Valmondois, France, and married Edmund Howard in 1936. She leaves issue. The Funeral Mass is on Wednesday 14 June, 2006, at St Peter's RC Church in Marlow.

Cissie Baroness Kershaw

Cissie Baroness Kershaw, who died at Newquay, Cornwall, 15 May, 2006, aged 99, was widow of the 2nd Baron Kershaw (1904-61). She was the former Cissie Burness Smythe, daughter of Charles E. Smythe, of Frien Barnet, and married the then Sub-Lieutenant Herbert Kershaw, RN, in 1933. Her father-in-law, Fred Kershaw, was appointed to Clement Attlee's administration in 1947 as a Lord-in-Waiting to the King, and was ennobled as Baron Kershaw, of Prestwich, Co. Palatine of Lancaster, 1947. He died in Feb, 1961, and was succeeded by his eldest son Herbert, as 2nd Baron, who died 5 months later, and was succeeded by his next brother, Edward Aubrey Kershaw, who died in the following year, when the peerage passed to Edward's son, Edward John, the 4th Baron, b. 1936. Baroness Kershaw's funeral took place at the Penmount Crematorium, Truro, 30 May 2006.

Lady Logan, widow of Sir Douglas William Logan

Lady Logan, who died 7 May, 2006, aged 89, was the widow of Sir Douglas William Logan (1910-87). Her husband was born in Liverpool in 1910 and went on to be educated at University College, Oxford. During 1935-1936 he held the Henry fellowship at Harvard and during 1936-1937 was assistant lecturer in Law at the London School of Economics. Logan was called to the bar (Middle Temple) in 1937 and also elected a fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge. During World War Two Logan worked for the Ministry of Supply before being appointed in 1944 as Clerk of the Court at London University where he became Principal in 1948. In 1959 Logan was knighted and went on to receive honorary fellowships from the London School of Economics (1962), University College Oxford (1973) and University College London (1975) as well as honorary degrees from numerous universities around the world.

Lady Stakis, widow of Sir Reo Stakis....

Lady Stakis, who died 6 May, 2006, was the widow of the hotel magnate, Sir Reo Stakis. Her late husband opened Scotland's first casino on his way to building a massive personal fortune - he died in 2001, aged 88. Sir Reo was only 14 when he left his home in Cyprus in 1928 and headed for the UK - with just a suitcase full of lace goods made by his mother and £50 in his pocket. The future could have been so different if a railway official hadn't managed to retrieve the case when it was stolen at London's Victoria Station. She was Annitsa Petroppouou.The funeral took place at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St Luke, Glasgow, 18 May, 2006.

His son, James Piers Southwell St. Aubyn, b. 1950, is now heir pres. to the Barony of St. Levan (UK 1887) and the Baronetcy (UK 1866).

Thea Marchioness of Ely, who died 5 May, 2006, was the widow of the 7th Marquess of Ely (1903-69). She was Thea Margaret Gronvold, daughter of Lars G. Gronvold, of Hove, and married in 1928, the then George Henry Wellington Tottenham, styled Viscount Loftus. In 1935 he succeeded his father as Baron Loftus (UK 1801), Earl of Ely, Viscount Loftus, and Marquess of Ely (Ireland created 1801) and a Baronet (cr. 1780).
