Augustine Joseph Mostyn Neilson (b 2018)

__. Isobel Mary Neilson (nee Mostyn, born 1987), wife of Gregory Robert Neilson (born 1985), and scion of the Mostyn baronets, gave birth to a son, Augustine Joseph Mostyn, 29 August, 2018.

Gregory is a son of Gordon Neilson (b 1949), by his wife the former Helen Russell, and Isobel is a dau of Brigadier Philip Mostyn (born 1955), by his wife the former Helen Nickerson, a descendant of the extinct Dukes of Newcastle-under-Lyne, &c.

_. The Lord Melchett, 4th baron, died 29 August, 2018, aged 70.

Peter Robert Henry Mond was born 24 February, 1948, son of the 3rd Baron Melchett (1925-1973) by his wife the former Sonia Elizabeth Graham (b 1928), the novelist Sonia Sinclair.

He was educated at Eton and Pembroke College, Cambridge; succeeded his father, 15 June, 1973, as fourth Baron (created 1928), and fourth Baronet (cr 1910).

Peter Melchett was a Lord in Waiting (Government Whip) in the House of Lords, 1974-75; Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department of Industry, 1975-76; Minister of State, Northern Ireland Office, 1976-79; Chairman, Working Party on Pop Festivals, 1975-76; Chairman, Community Industry, 1979-85; Chairman 1986-89, Executive Director 1989-2000, Greenpeace UK; chairman, Wildlife Link, 1979-87; Greenpeace Japan 1994-2001; Member of the Board of Greenpeace International, 1989, 2001; Vice-President, Ramblers Association from 1984, and President 1981-84, &c.

Lord Melchett leaves a partner, Cassandra Van Nostrand Wedd (born 1949), and two children, Jay Julian Mond Wedd, and Jessica Joan Mond Wedd.

The peerage and baronetcy now become extinct.

James Archibald Innes, DSO, a descendant of the Viscounts Downe, by whom he had issue; married 2ndly, Diana ______.

Sir John in the baronetcy by his only son, David Bernard Hall, who was born 12 May, 1961.

She was a daughter of Admiral Sir Mark Pizey, GBE, CB, DSO (1899-1973) by his wife the former Phyllis May D'Angibau (1904-93); married 1961, James Alexander Pountney Coats (1927-93), scion of the Coats baronets, son of Ian Pountney Coats (1901-80) by his wife the former Hilda May Latta (1899-1997), by whom she had three daughters, Amanda, Fiona & Annie.

A service will be held at Cardross Crematorium, 13 September, 2018, followed by a service of thanksgiving at Kilberry Church, 14 September, 2018.

Sir William Durrant, 8th Baronet 1929-2018

__. Sir William Durrant, 8th Baronet, died 26 August, 2018. He was 88.

Sir William was the holder of a baronetcy, of Spottow, Norfolk, created for his ancestor in 1784. His home for some years was in Nemingha, New South Wales.

William Alexander Estridge Durrant was born 26 Nov, 1929, the only son of the eighth baronet, and succeeded to the baronetcy on the death of his father Sir William, in 1994; married 1953, Dorothy, daughter of Ronal Croker, of Quirindi, New South Wales, Australia, by whom he had a son and a daughter.

The baronetcy now passes to his only son, David, who was born 1 July, 1960.

Sissons (who was killed in action in 1940), and of the former Marjorie Shepherd; married 1stly 1960 (div 1974), Nicola Ann Fowler, by whom he had 2 children; married 2ndly 1974 (div 1992) Ilze Kadegis, by whom he had a further two children; married thirdly, 1992 (as her second husband) Serena Barbara Palmer (born 1950), scion of the Barons Palmer, daughter of William Alexander Palmer, CBE, DL (b 1925), by his wife the former Cherry Anne Gibbs (born 1928).

Jean, Lady Polwarth (died 2018)

_. Jean, Lady Polwarth, who died 24 August, 2018, aged 90, was the widow of the 10th Lord Polwarth, a peer in the Peerage of Scotland, who died in 2005.

She was the former Jean Graham, only daughter of Admiral Sir Angus Edward Malise Bontine Cunninghame Graham, KBE, CB, 20th of Ardoch, by his wife Mary Patricia Hanbury, scion of that landed family; married 1stly, 1948 (divorced 1969), Charles Jauncey, later life peer Baron Jauncey of Tullichettle (1925-2007); , married 2ndly, 8 Aug, 1969, as his second wife, Henry Alexander (Harry) Hepburne-Scott, 10th Lord Polwarth (1916-2005), and was widowed, 4 January, 2005. She is survived by three children from her first marriage, the Hon James and the Hon Simon Jauncey, and a daughter the Hon Arabella. Her step-son is the 12th Lord Polwarth.

The funeral takes place at Dunkeld Cathedral, 17 September, 2018.

Sir Adrian Swire 1932-2018

__. Sir Adrian Swire, billionaire businessman, chairman of John Swire & Sons 1987-87, and 2002-04, died 24 August, 2018. He was 86.

He was born 15 Feb, 1932, a scion of the Swire landed family, son of John Kidston Swire (1893-1983) by his wife the former Juliet Richenda Barclay, scion of that landed family. He served in the Coldstream Guards.

He married in 1970, the Lady Judith Compton (born 1943), daughter of the 6th Marquess of Northampton, DSO (1885-1978), by his second wife, the former Virginia Lucie Heaton, by whom he had issue, three children, Merlin, Samuel and Martha.

The funeral takes place at the Church of the Holy Rood, Sparsholt, 18 September, 2018.

Lady Christopher Thynne 1940-2018

_. Lady Christopher Thynne, who died 24 August, 2018, was the widow of Lord Christopher Thynne (1934-2017), and was a scion of the Palmer baronets.

Antonia Mary Palmer was born in 1940, daughter of Maj Sir Anthony Frederick Mark Palmer, 4th Baronet, who was killed in action in 1941, by his wife the former Henriette Alice Cadogan, DCVO (who married 2ndly 1953, Brig Sir Alexander Abel Smith, KCVO, scion of the Dukes of Somerset, &c).

Antonia's mother was a Lady-in-Waiting to the Queen (when Princess Elizabeth) from 1949, a Woman of the Bedchamber to the Queen 1952-3; Extra Woman of the Bedchamber to HM 1953-73, and again Woman of the Bedchamber from 1973. She was appointed CVO in 1964, and advanced to DCVO in 1977.

Antonia married in 1968, Lord Christopher Thynne, second son of the late 6th Marquess of Bath (1905-92), by his first wife the former Hon Daphne Vivian, scion of the Barons Vivian.

Lady Christopher was widowed 27 January, 2017. She leaves issue.

Emma Renshaw, scion of the Wentworth-Stanley landed gentry family, is a daughter of David Wentworth-Stanley by his wife the former Jane Hall.

_. Princess Augusta von Preussen (born 15 Dec, 1986), wife of Caspar William Helmore (born 27 Jan, 1987), gave birth to a son, Otto Frederick Charles, 11 August, 2018.

Caspar is the second son of Mr Charles Patrick Helmore, of London, and Mrs Rachel Helmore (born 1952, nee Aykroyd), of Rogate, west Sussex, scion of the Aykroyd baronets (Bt, cr UK, 1929, of Birstwith Hall, Harrogate). He is a nephew of Lucy Helmore, the socialite and model, former wife of pop singer Bryan Ferry, who took her own life earlier in 2018.

Princess Augusta Lily von Preussen, a scion of the Royal House of Prussia, & a descendant of Queen Victoria, is the  daughter of HRH Prince (Frederick) Nicholas von Preussen (b 3 May, 1946). of Kensington, by his former wife the former Hon Victoria Mancroft (b 1952) (Victoria, Princess von Preussen, of East Coker, Somerset)  scion of the Barons Mancroft (Baron UK, cr 1937).

Sir Henry Shiffner, 8th Baronet 1930-2018

_. Sir Henry Shiffner, 8th Baronet, a company director, died 22 August, 2018, in Valencia, Spain. The baronetcy was created for his ancestor in 1818.

Henry David Shiffner was born 3 February, 1930, son of Maj Sir Henry Shiffner 7th Baronet, by his wife, the former Margaret Mary Gowers (died 1987), daughter of Sir Ernest Gowers, GCB, GBE; succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's death, 1941.

Educated at Rugby and Trinity College, Cambridge.

Married firstly, 1949 (div 1956), Dorothy Jackson, by whom he had a daughter; married 2ndly, 1957 (div 1970), Beryl Milburn, by whom he had a daughter; married thirdly, 1970, Joaquina Ramos Lopez.

He is succeeded in the baronetcy by his cousin once removed, Michael George Edward Shiffner, who was born in 1963.

Lady Dunnington-Jefferson is the former Joanna Lee, daughter of Mr & Mrs James Lee, of Normanton, Nottinghamshire.

Sir John Dunnington-Jefferson is a son of the late Sir Mervyn Dunnington-Jefferson (1943-2014), by his wife the former Caroline Anna Bayley, and succeeded to the baronetcy, created in 1958, upon his father's death, 9 January, 2014.

_. Hugh William Marriott died 22 August, 2018. He was born in 1942, a son of Lieutenant-Colonel Ian Arthur Marriott (1911-85) by his wife the former Cynthia Cadman (1919-2005), daughter of James Cadman (1878-1947), and niece of the 1st Baron Cadman; he married 1966, Catherine Julia Marshall (born 1946), daughter of Robert Mackenzie Marshall (1906-81) by his wife the former Betty Rowlands (1907-91), by whom he had 3 daughters, Tamsin, Sarah-Jane, and Sophie.

A private cremation will be followed by a celebration of his life in the New Forest, 6 October, 2018.

She was born Caroline Venetia Baring, 29 January, 1937, daughter of Lieut-Col Esmond Charles Baring (1914-63), scion of the eponymous banking dynasty, descended from the Barons Ashburton, by his first wife the former Zalia Snagge (died 1986); married 1 June, 1957, Henry Giles Francis Lascelles (1931-98), scion of the Earls of Harewood, by whom she had issue, two sons, Hugo and Peregine and a daughter, Sophie. The daughter was the wife (now divorced) of Lord Bruce Dundas, a younger son of the 3rd Marquess of Zetland.

John William Waterlow 1945-2018

John William Waterlow, who died 20 August, 2018, aged 72, was a scion of the Waterlow baronets, and heir presumptive to his cousin's baronetcy; born in 1945, a son of Sir Thomas Waterlow, 3rd Baronet (1911-1982), by his wife the former Helen Elizabeth Holland Robinson (1914-70); married 1972, Camilla Dudley Farmer, dau of Wing Commander Dudley Herbert Leopold Farmer (1916-1993), by his wife the former Sheila Rosemary Brownrigg (1917-74), by whom he had issue. His son, Rufus Dudley Robinson Waterlow, born in 1976, is now heir presumptive to the family baronetcy.

Patricia, Baroness Selsdon (died 2018)

_.Patricia, Baroness Selsdon, who died 20 August, 2018, was the first wife of the 3rd Baron Selsdon, a Conservative hereditary peer in the House of Lords.

She was the former Patricia Anne Donald-Smith, daughter of Donald Smith, of Halsmere, Surrey, and married 2 June, 1965, Malcolm Mitchell-Thomson, 3rd Baron Selsdon (born 27 Oct, 1937), son of the 2nd Baron (1913-63), by his 1st wife the former Phoebette Swithinbank. The marriage ended in divorce.

Lady Selsdon is survived by a son, the Hon Callum Mitchell-Thomson.

A private service of interment will be held, 10 Oct, 2018.

Baroness Coleridge (died 2018)

_. The Baroness Coleridge, who died 12 August, 2018, was the wife of William Duke Coleridge, 5th Baron Coleridge.

She was the former Pamela Baker, daughter of Commander George William Baker, CBE; and married Lord Coleridge, as his second wife, in 1977. Her husband, born in 1937 succeeded to the peerage in 1984.

Lady Coleridge is survived by her husband and two daughters, Vanessa and Katharine, and by a step-son and two step-daughters.

Sir Peter Tapsell (1930-2018)

_. The Rt Hon Sir Peter Tapsell, who died 18 August, 2018, aged 88, was a Conservative MP for Nottingham West, from 1959-64, and later Conservative MP for Horncastle, 1966-83, and for East Lindsey 1983-97, and for Louth & Horncastle, 1997-2015. He was Father of the House of Commons, 2010-2015.

Tapsell was for some years the son-in-law of the 9th Baron Hawke. In 1963 he married the Hon Cecilia Anne Hawke, one of the peer's seven daughters. The marriage ended in divorce in 1971.

__, James Hubert Judd, who died 19 August, 2018, was descended from the Earls of Erne.

He was born in 1933, son of Leslie Ashurst Judd (1894-1967), by his wife the former Enid Irene Adelaide Crichton (1907-74), scion of the Earls of Erne; married 1982, as her fifth husband, Lady Zinnia Rosemary Denison (1937-97), daughter of the 4th Earl of Londesborough (1894-1937), by his wife the former Marigold Rosemary Joyce Lubbock (1903-76), scion of the Barons Avebury. __. Ronald James Orr Ewing, scion of the Orr Ewing baronets, died at St Columba's Hospice, Edinburgh, 18 August, 2018. He was 70.

He was the youngest of the four children of Sir Ronald Orr Ewing, 5th Baronet (1912-2002), by his wife the former Marion Hester Cameron (1914-97), daughter of Sir Donald Cameron of Lochiel, the 25th Chief of the Clan Cameron.

The funeral will take place at St Mary's Church, Aberfoyle, 5 September, 2018.

Sir Samuel Hill-Wood is the son of Sir David Hill-Wood, 3rd Bt by his wife the former Jennifer Anne McKenzie Strang, and succeeded to the baronetcy upon his father's demise, 2002. Sir Samuel married in 2014, Emma Jane Dixon, daughter of Mark Dixon, of Wallingford, Oxfordshire. His infant son is heir to the baronetcy.

Sir Digby Mackworth, 10th Baronet 1945-2018

_. Sir Digby Mackworth, 10th Baronet, died 17 July, 2018. He was 72.

Digby John Mackworth was born 2 November, 1945, the only child of Sir David Mackworth, 9th Baronet (1912-98), by his wife the former Mary Alice Grylls (died 1993).

He was educated at Wellington, and served as a Lieutenant in the Australian Army Aviation Corps, helicopter pilot; Reconnaissance Flt, Australian Task Force, Vietnam; Pilot, Bristow Helicopters, Trinidad & Iran, 1972-77; British Airways Helicopters, Shetland, Aberdeen, China, India, 1977-89; British Airways Heathrow Airport, 1989-2000; later Pilot, EasyJet from 2000, &c.

He married in 1971, Antoinette Francesca McKenna, by whom he had one daughter, Octavia, and succeeded to the baronetcy, created in 1776, upon his father's demise, 1998.

The baronetcy now passes to his kinsman, Alan Keith Mackworth, born in 1945, resident in Canada.

Asquith, 1st Earl of Oxford & Asquith, KG. She leaves 2 sons and a daughter.

_. Sir Alex Fergusson, who died 31 July, 2018, aged 69, was the former presiding officer of the Scottish parliament, the MSP for Scotland South 1999-2003, and for Galloway and West Dumfries, 2003-16, who resigned in 2016 after 17 years service, and was knighted in that year.

He was a scion of the Fergusson baronets of Kilkerran. He was born Alexander Charles Onslow Fergusson 8 April, 1949, and educated at Eton, the elder son of the Rev Simon Charles David Fergusson by his wife the former Auriole Kathleen Hughes-Onslow, descended from the Earls of Onslow. and was a grandson paternally of Sir Charles Fergusson, 7th Baronet GCB, GCMG, DSO, MVO (1865-1951), by his wife the former Lady Alice Mary Boyle (d 1958), daughter of the 7th Earl of Glasgow.

He married in 1974, Jane Merryn Barthold, by whom he had three sons.

Christopher Henry Gibbs 1938-2018

_. Christopher Gibbs, who has  died aged 79, was a scion of the Barons Aldenham & Hunsdon, an antiques dealer, interior designer, bibliophile, and aesthete, & friend of Sir Mick Jagger, who pioneered a style of interior decoration often described as 'distressed bohemian'---------

He was born 29 July, 1938, the fifth son of the Hon Sir Geoffrey Cokayne Gibbs, KCMG (1901-75), by his wife the former Helen Margaret Leslie, and was a grandson of Herbert Cokayne Gibbs, 1st Baron Hunsdon (1854-1935).

It was Herbert Gibbs who, in 1908, acquired the manor of Hunsdon. This manor with the title of Baron Hunsdon was granted by Queen Elizabeth I to her first cousin, Henry Carey, and ancestor of Gibbs, who, in 1923, was raised to the peerage.
