Maj-Gen. Sir Brian Wyldbore-Smith

Major-General Sir Brian Wyldbore-Smith, Kt, CB, DSO, OBE, General Officer Commanding, 4th Division (Territorial Army) and Home Counties District, 1965-68; of Grantham, died in hospital, 6 December, 2005. He was aged 92.
Sir Brian was a long serving Conservative party worker and friend of Baroness Thatcher. He served as Director of the Conservative Board of Finance, 1970-92.
He was born 10 July, 1913, son of the Rev. W.R. Wyldbore-Smith, and was educated at Wellington College, and the Royal Military Academy Woolwich.
Career:-->served in the Middle East, Italy, France and Germany, 1941-45; Military Adviser to the Chief of the Imperial General Staff, 1947-49; GSO1 7th Armoured Division, 1951-53; commanded the 15th/19th King's Royal Hussars, 1954-56; Imperial Defence College, 1959; BGS Combat Development, 1959-62; Chief of Staff to the Commander-in-Chief, Far East Command, 1962-64; Colonel 15/19 Hussars, 1970-77; &c.
Wyldbore-Smith, of Grantham House, Grantham, Lincolnshire, was awarded the DSO in 1943; OBE 1944; CB 1965; knighted 1980.
He married in 1944, the Hon. Molly Angela Cayzer, daughter of the shipping magnate, the 1st Baron Rotherwick, by whom he had a son and four daughters (however, only three daughters survive him. The son, Robin, died 16 Aug, 2001, aged 43). The Hon. Lady Wyldbore-Smith died 16 September, 2001.
The funeral is at St Wulframs Church, Grantham, Lincs, 16 December, 2005.
